Nationalpark in Tsavo
With its 20.000 km2 Tsavo Nationalpark is one of the biggest
refuges for wild animals in Africa.
Being very well protected and guarded by specially trained guardians, this park shows hope for the long term maintenance and reintroduction of many endangered species back into the wild.
It is one of the last habitats of the black Rhinoceros,
the Hirola-antelope and the 8500 African elephants,
which exist there at the moment. In addition the park turned out to be
in an ecological balance without the need of human assistance to control
the population density.
Daphné,
the widow of the founder and former gamekeeper of the park David
Sheldrick, gave 50 years of her life to the wild animals, treating,
rehabilitating and reintroducing the animals into the wild. Her publications
and research have increased our knowledge of animal behaviour which influenced
our conservation stratergies.
